Editorial Reviews:

This encyclopedia of embroidery stitches using stranded threads is a comprehensive reference for every embroiderer. The numerous step-by-step photographs and clear instructions show every stage of working a stitch and make even the most complicated techniques easy to follow. Alongside the stitches are practical hints on using different threads and fabrics, tried and tested tips for the beginner and gorgeous projects using and combining the stitches described in the book. Common problems are solved and suggestions given on choosing and storing equipment, starting and finishing and the use of hoops and frames.

More experienced embroiderers will find inspiration and ideas for further experimentation and suggestions for using embroidery on clothing, accessories and in the home.

Customer Reviews:

Great book with great stiches Apr 26, 2010

I live this book! I ordered one that I gave to my 11 year old granddaughter and she uses it to learn new stitches. I liked it so much I ordered one for myself too! However stay away from the A1 bookseller! It took over a month to get the book.

Excellent stitch guide -- misleading cover Dec 28, 2009

I agree with other reviewers -- this book is a very concise reference for dozen of stitches, and the photography of each stitch, step-by-step, is superior to many of the other handbooks available (and far less confusing than an illustration).

I am disappointed that the many beautiful projects shown on the cover and inside the book are never addressed further -- there are no patterns, no diagrams of those projects. Even the photographs of many of the projects are so small, that it's difficult to see the detail in the stitch work (and thus, pattern it out for yourself). A good addition to the reference section of a stitcher's library, and a nice source for project inspiration, but not a source for patterns.

Do you know that part of the stitch that other books skip? Here is the bedside book of needlework beginner or the book that will show why the experienced embroiderer can not succeed with one specific stitch.
Rich in details and variety, spectacular.

The Embroiderer's Handbook Jul 08, 2009

I borrowed several books on embroidery from my library, one of which was the The Embroiderer's Handbook. This book is far superior to any of the others. It is very informative and shows how to do lots of stitches in an easy and very clear way. I decided that I couldn't do without my own copy.

The Embroiderer's Handbook Nov 19, 2008

Most excellent of embroidery know-how books. Clear pictures and instructions. Has some stitches in this book that is not in other books.
This book will be my well-used keepsake to pass on to my Granddaughters.
