This new edition of Helen M. Stevens' first and most successful embroidery book provides readers with the opportunity to recreate four original embroidery pieces for themselves. Helen depicts the natural beauty of the countryside using pure silk embroidery threads to capture spring hedgerows, the woodland floor, riverbanks and summer meadows with breath-taking realism. Each delightful scene is accompanied by a full discussion of stitching techniques plus stunning photographs, making this book the perfect guide for nature-loving embroiderers.
Customer Reviews:
Great source of inspiration for... quilling Oct 30, 2009
This book has been a great source of inspiration for my paper quilling (that's right, not embroidery) projects. Helen M Stevens' designs are absolutely awesome. I've chosen the Masterclass edition because it's much more detailed, and I wanted to know exactly what colors had been used. Having a close look at all the elements helps a lot, too.
masterclass Embroiderer's Countryside Oct 22, 2009
I am excited that this book has now been released as a masterclass. Don't let the name masterclass discourage you. The steps are simple and you can do them. It is 4 classes from the master stitcher and designer Helen Stevens. A class can cost as much $150 to $500 from any master. The cost of these books are very economical, and the teacher is always at hand. I have all her books and do recommend them if you love nature and stitching.
Fantastic Photos! Sep 20, 2009
Although this is a five star book and I can learn from her pictures, there are only four projects in the book. There are a lot of illustrations and pictures of her work to look at and learn from if you are doing similar projects. I learned a lot about shading by looking at her pictures. I wish there had been more projects in the book.

I would have liked to know about the instructions, as it is a little hard to understand, but love the book, excellent projects.
Amazing Book - Excellet Study Guide Sep 15, 2008
Wow. I did not expect so much detail! This book is an excellent resource and study guide for those who are accomplished embroiderers seeking to add flora and fauna to thier work.
Helen Stevens writes so clearly, adding personal opinions and suggestions as she goes, making it seem like a friend is sitting next to you, guiding you along the way. I love her writing style.
