Customer Reviews:
what's unique-- May 06, 2010
Yes you could find better instruction elsewhere, but crazy stitch primers abound and they are not hard stitches to master. The strength of this book is in it's endless combinations of basic stitches to make layered geometric borders and patterns. I couldn't have imagined so many different ways and it's fun to see the results without having to any of the work yourself. The author did her historical research, reviving stitches and designs from much older pieces. It's a simple concept- experimenting with more lines, curves, mirror images, to create new and larger patterns-- but the next step is seldom seen in a book and never in this much variety and detail. It's usually left up the sewer to visualize the possibilities. This author did the work for you.
Excellent Stitch Reference Mar 14, 2010
Wonderful reference. Stitches are broken down into segments, making it clear and easy to duplicate them. This book is a wonderful guide for creating your own stitch combinations as well.
The best book for Crazy Quilters or any embroiderer Jan 11, 2010
This book is by far the best one I have ever found. There are so many stitches in it you will have ideas for years to come. It is an amazing inspiration. I take it with me whenever I stitch.
Excellent stitch guide Dec 29, 2009
This book has been a great investment. The stitch combinations listed in the book have given me lots of ideas for my own seam treatments. I also have Carole's Dream a Seam templates, so I'm using them in combination with this book.
This is not an entry level book, meaning she does not show you how to do the different stitches. So, if you are a beginner you should probably look for a different book if you need detailed instructions and how-tos. Instead, this is more of an encyclopedia of stitches and stitch combinations meant to educate and inspire. There are also many great motif designs in this book.
I really recommend this book for the mid-level and up stitcher.
The Bible of Crazy Quilt Stitches May 11, 2009
I consider this book to be the bible of crazy quilt stitches! I've been studying crazy quilts for years wishing there was a way to harness all those wonderful stitches scattered all over the Crazy Quilts. Carole Samples did it!! In the book she broke the stitches down into a few simple stitches to start, by studying her book soon you can accomplish any stitch. I can't even explain how exciting it is to own this book!
