Editorial Reviews:

Crochet bouquets of nearly 50 whimsical, wonderful flowers, in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors! Done in upscale yarns like ribbon, chenille, and silk, this contemporary garden will get intermediate-level crocheters grasping their hooks. Some of the flora looks realistic; others are beautifully fanciful, pure products of the imagination. A simple, well-photographed basics section explains how to create them all: specialty techniques include felting, stacking the flowers, stiffening the petals, and linking the flowers together. “Grow” daffodils, dahlias, ferns, firewheels, primroses, sunflowers, and violets—or even a fantastic blossom with layers of scalloped petals radiating out in increasing size from a crystal button center. For added inspiration, a series of showcase projects incorporates the blossoms, including hats, backpacks, pillows, and cards.

This is the best book I have seen & purchased!! It has tons of stuff in here & they turn out perfectly!!
Some of the patterns can be tricky but patience is all that you need there!! :)

Great Book but not for beginners Jun 04, 2010

This is an okay book, but I found that I may need Crochet 101 before doing any projects in this book.

Wonderful World of Flowers! May 03, 2010

Beautiful pictures and easy instructions to follow!!!! Will recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn to crochet flowers!

Some assembly required Jan 10, 2010

I agree with other reviewers - the flowers are beautiful. I also like that the book gives you ideas and suggestions for variations on the patterns to make your own unique flowers. However, I am working on just my first pattern from this book, and already I have two complaints:

1) A large proportion of the patterns involve making 2 or more flower pieces separately and then sewing them together. Personally, I dread assembly. I don't mind joining colors, but I much prefer to work flowers as a single piece. If you don't mind assembly, this won't bother you, but it will probably impact my use of this book. On the positive side, it does give you more flexibility if you want to create variations.

2) Patterns cross pages. I find it really distracting to keep having to flip a page when I'm crocheting - especially when it's a part of the pattern that repeats, so I have to do it multiple times. I wish the book had been edited so that if you have to turn the page during a pattern, at least it is at the end of a row/round.

And wouldn't it be nice to have a book that's spiral bound so the pages lie flat when you're trying to read them?

Anyway, I will probably make some more of the patterns from this book, but mostly I will probably stick with the flower patterns in the Harmony Guides book of crochet motifs and the occasional flower patterns I find in other books and online.

Creative and Fun Projects! Jun 14, 2009

I give Crochet Bouquet 2 thumbs up on originality and great photographs. However, if you are a beginner, I would not choose this as your first book as there is no glossary of stitches or directions on how to make them if you need help or a reminder. I found myself checking my other books on creating some of the stitches or looking them up online.
Other than that, I had a fantastic time making these little posies and pansies. I will definitely be making more. They are fast and a great way to use up little pieces of yarn in my stash!
