Editorial Reviews:
Like the frosting on the cupcake, or the tiara on the bride, a beautiful border is the finishing touch for a lovingly created afghan, whether knitted or crocheted. Borders can be elegant or whimsical, can match or contrast with the afghan, and can lift even the simplest afghan from ''ordinary'' into the ''very special'' category. If you usually depend upon fringe as an accent, you'll have fun experimenting with these 50 crochet borders by Jean Leinhauser. The borders can be worked with any weight of yarn that works well with the body of the afghan. For some designs, the number of colors used in a border also can be varied. General instructions are included for how to use the borders, work with stitch pattern multiples, and estimate yarn amounts.

I loved this little book so much I got copies as gifts for some of my freinds. With the book 200 crochet blocks and several skeins of beautiful yarn this makes a terrific gift!
Pretty Afghan Edgings to Use Instead of Fringe Aug 01, 2010
Fringed afghans are pretty, but ordinary fringe made with cut yarn takes forever to apply, and the fringe tangles with use. This booklet offers 50 attractive crocheted edgings that can be used instead of fringe on afghans that are either knitted or crocheted.
The pattern instructions are written out (no charts), and are accompanied by large full-color photos of the finished edgings. The samples are done in the heavier weight yarns normally used for afghans, and often use more than one color to illustrate how versatile a particular edging can be in the hands of a creative handcrafter. The booklet's cover photo displays a representative sampling of the edgings, which vary in width and complexity. Instructions for preparing afghans for the edgings, for calculating stitch multiples, and for estimating yarn yardage are included.
I really like this collection of edgings, because every single pattern is one that I might consider using. The edgings are neither overly fussy nor boringly simple, and all are appropriate to apply as the finishing touch to almost any afghan.

Love These Crochet Afghan Borders Jan 17, 2010
I originally purchased 50 More Crocheted Afghan Borders because I loved the yellow and pink flower afghan border on the cover (#48), and knew I wanted to add it to my next afghan project. When I received the booklet, I was surprised that I liked most of the border designs. I like to create my own afghans using a solid color for the body with a single afghan pattern or multiple patterns that I choose and then add an unusual border to finish it off. I know I will be using this booklet for many future projects to complete my afghans. All 50 patterns have easy to follow instructions and a color photo of the completed design. Check out the front and back covers for pictures of some of the patterns.
The booket also gives the following helpful information:
- How to prepare your finished afghan...by adding a single foundation edging row around all four sides of your afghan
- How to count stitches on your afghan to determine the border
- How to estimate yarn amounts needed for your afghan border
- And, standard abbreviations and symbols
There is something here for everyone, easier patterns for someone who has been crocheting for a couple of years and more detailed patterns for a more advanced crocherer. If you want 50 more different border designs for your afghans, whether it be a flat border with simple to fancy designs or a frilly/puckered design for a baby afghan, this booklet has a good collection of ideas. The booklet is in brand new, mint condition.
