New skills for people who love to sew Aug 15, 2010
Bead Embroidery is a new skill for our family. From the initial reading of this book, I think it is going to be very helpful for us - clear instructions, good photography and many choices for a variety of techniques and styles. We will try to update some rather tired-looking garments and give them a whole new look.
VERY INFORMATIVE Aug 12, 2010
This book has very clear info on beads and their use. A must have for beginners!

I checked this out from my library today hoping for some interesting ideas for embellishing clothes. I'll be returning it tomorrow. The designs here simply aren't impressive or aesthetically pleasing, just bead heavy. Here you will find silly designs for large beaded trumpets, gaudy sequin flowers and such not. The sort of things you would see old ladies wearing...in the 1980's. I suppose this could be milked for kitsch appeal, but without a firm sense of irony I wouldn't try any of these.
I suppose I should have seen it coming when in his intro the author said he got in to fashion design because he wanted to make sequin covered gowns. Gag.

I really like this book. I am a fan of Kenneth's from my garment sewing days. It is excellent for that purpose but can also cross-over into the art quilt and surface design genre. Many techniques are actually quite old and are being rediscovered by fiber artists. Kenneth brings everything to life in this book. I just want to know where I can find the left-handed Bernina that appears in one of the photographs! Trust a non-sewing individual to flip the picture and print it backwards!
